  • Parish Council NoticeBoard - Winter 05/06
    New Councillors
In the past months Cllr Sue Royal, Cllr Ross McCormick, Cllr Matthew Veasey and Cllr Bob Screen have been co-opted onto the Parish Council. This followed the vacancies advertised in the previous Parish Council NoticeBoard newsletter and on the village noticeboards.

Sue launched the ‘Community Plan’ at the Annual Parish Meeting with the help of volunteers, which included the Ladies Circle. Ross has already made a significant contribution by driving the Parish Plan Steering Group, and Matthew organised the highly enjoyable Trafalgar Day Parish Plan Launch Party. Bob has only just joined, and great things are expected.

    “Your Parish Council”
The Parish Council has produced some information about what a Parish Council is, what it is not, and what it can do for you. The full text is available on the Parish Council Pages of the website - www.littleleigh.net/parishcouncil
Essentially, your elected Council is the first tier of local government. Its decisions are the responsibility of the Council as a whole, and it has been granted powers by Parliament, including the authority to raise money through the precept (part of the Council Tax).

The Council has legally defined powers to take action, but in practice its primary responsibility is to represent the interests of residents and to make recommendations to decision-making bodies, like Vale Royal Borough and Cheshire County Councils.

The Parish Council can and does influence decision makers.

    What does it do?
The Parish Council is consulted upon or responsible for responding to a wide range of issues. Essentially, anything that is local to you. It also assists in organising events such as The Annual Parish Meeting, and Trafalgar Day Parish Plan Launch.

What more does the Parish Council hope to do?
The Parish Council also actively seeks to work in harmony with each and all of the bodies both within and outside the parish, looking after village concerns. It continues links with Little Leigh Primary School, the Parochial Church Council, the Women’s Institute, the Village Hall Committee, Youth Club, Play Group, Popmobility, Yoga, Tai Chi, Toddlers Group, the Friendly Club and the ‘Wall’ Holiday Club.
